Nimrods Brings the Spirit of Green Day to the Big Screen
Live Nation Studios turns Green Day’s early touring adventures into a rebellious coming-of-age comedy built for music fans.
Some of the best music stories happen long before the sold-out arenas, platinum records, and worldwide recognition. NIMRODS, developed and executive produced by Live Nation Studios, taps into that spirit with a coming-of-age comedy inspired by the early adventures of Green Day. Now in theaters, the film brings together music, friendship, and the chaos of chasing a dream before you have any idea where it might lead.
A Road Trip Fueled by Green Day
Written and directed by Lee Kirk, NIMRODS follows three high school friends whose fledgling band receives what they believe is the opportunity of a lifetime: opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. There’s only one problem—the invitation isn’t real.
Convinced their big break is waiting, the friends set off for Los Angeles on a wild cross-country road trip. What follows is a rowdy journey inspired by Green Day’s own experiences living and touring in a van before the breakthrough success of Dookie. Rather than retelling the band’s history as a traditional biopic, NIMRODS channels the attitude, humor, and unpredictability of those formative years into an original story.
The film stars Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust alongside Mckenna Grace, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee, and Fred Armisen. Green Day themselves are also part of the project, with Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool serving as producers.
Music-Driven Storytelling Beyond the Stage
NIMRODS represents another side of Live Nation Studios’ commitment to artist-driven entertainment. While music remains at the heart of the story, the film takes audiences beyond the concert stage and into a scripted world inspired by the experiences, culture, and community surrounding one of rock music’s most influential bands.
That connection between artists and storytelling is central to Live Nation Studios. By working alongside musicians, filmmakers, and creative partners, LNS continues to explore new ways of translating the energy and culture of music into film and television.
For NIMRODS, Live Nation Studios partnered with Inaugural Entertainment and Legion M to bring the project to audiences. Legion M and Inaugural Entertainment are distributing the film, extending the fan-driven nature of the project all the way through its theatrical release.
NIMRODS Is Now in Theaters
After premiering at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, NIMRODS arrived in theaters on August 14. It’s a story for Green Day fans, music lovers, and anyone who remembers what it felt like to chase an impossible dream with your friends—and perhaps make a few questionable decisions along the way.
With its mix of punk-rock energy, comedy, nostalgia, and coming-of-age storytelling, NIMRODS demonstrates how the stories surrounding music can become something entirely their own on screen.
